Now that the Christmas season is starting, I think answering a question that has been asked for years. What is the best Christmas song of all time? The way I figured out the best Christmas song, was some steps…

Spotify Most Streamed Christmas Songs

The first way I separated the good and the bad, was by using Spotify. By looking at the top 10 streamed Christmas songs on Spotify, I could find a rough estimate of what songs were really good. I understand that the most popular, doesn't always mean the best. But this would help me only have a short amount of songs. Also to people saying that “Spotify didn't exist 50 years ago” the number one Christmas song should stand the test of time, even if it was made years ago! The top 10 songs were:

“All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey

“Last Christmas” by Wham!

“It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” by Michael Bublé

“Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber

“Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams

“Do They Know It’s Christmas? (1984 Version)” by Band Aid

“Fairytale of New York (feat. Kirsty MacColl)” by The Pogues

“White Christmas” by Bing Crosby

“Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” by Frank Sinatra

What Number On The Charts?

The next step was to order the songs, by the position they were on the charts. Then the bottom 5 would get cut. This of course isn't it all, I would also order the songs based, on how popular and well known they are. Also, their rating based on song critics! Here are the ratings and peak position, (order in best to worst) :

  1. “Fairytale of New York (feat. Kirsty MacColl)” by The Pogues- №2, 4.04
  2. “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby- №12, 4.2
  3. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey- №1, 3.4
  4. “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!” by Frank Sinatra- №15, 3.8
  5. “Do They Know It’s Christmas? (1984 Version)” by Band Aid- №1, 2.8
  6. “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams- №10, 3.7
  7. “Santa Tell Me” by Ariana Grande- №42, 4.0
  8. “Last Christmas” by Wham!- №40, 3.3
  9. “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” by Michael Bublé- №96, 3.8
  10. “Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber- №86, 3.6

The Top 5

The last top 5 are pure classics, but here comes the hard choice! I got to kick out 2 more songs. If you don't agree with my opinion, you can pick the number 1 out of the top 5! So the songs I'm choosing to kick out is:

“Fairytale of New York (feat. Kirsty MacColl)” by The Pogues

The reason I picked this song is for two reasons. I personally just find the song boring and the opening too slow in my opinion. In addition, the second reason is it was one of the least streamed Spotify songs.

“White Christmas” by Bing Crosby

I know its a classic, but I think its way too old now, and feels just way too out of touch in 2020! Also, it was one of the leased streamed Spotify songs! I personally just find it slow and boring!

The Final 3

Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! All I Want for Christmas Is You and Do They Know It’s Christmas? Some of the best Christmas songs, but only one can win! The number one Christmas song of all time is:

Do They Know It’s Christmas?

You may have already guessed this song would be number 1, but it is a classic! Even though it has a 2.8 star rating, it is still amazing! Not only is it just a great song in general, it also helped raise 24 million dollars for charity! Even though all I want for Christmas, has a load more Spotify streams, I feel like more people know about, do they know its Christmas time! Anyway congrats do they know its Christmas time, for being number one! If you disagree good for you!
